Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I find a START NEW Basic Training Program in my state?

At this time, only Michigan has locations available for people to attend START NEW Basic Training Programs. Click on the "
Upcoming Programs" link to find a location near you. However you can purchase a syllabus and set of "Basic Training" DVDs to do the program at home at our "START NEW Store" page.

2. How much does it cost to participate in START NEW Basic Training?

Most sites charge $65 which includes the following benefits...
  • Pre & post program blood tests including: total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride and glucose testing.
  • Weight, measurements and total body fat testing.
  • Blood pressure screening.
  • Hands-on cooking demonstrations.
  • Full meal each week with easy to follow recipes.

  • 250 page workbook with cookbook included.
3. What if I can't afford the $65?

Most sites have payment programs for you to take advantage of. Some partial and full scholarships could be available at some sites. (Check with the program facilitator about this.)

4. What is the START NEW Basic Training "Orientation" all about?

We want people to understand completely what they are getting into before they make a decision to participate in an 8-week program. This is not a diet. It will be a complete lifestyle change for most people. At the orientation you will...
  • Meet previous participants and hear their experiences with START NEW Basic Training.
  • Meet each of the facilitators of the program who will share with you what to expect throughout the upcoming 8 weeks.
  • Ask any questions you might have.
  • Fill out a short questionnaire.
  • Be scheduled for blood and diagnostics tests before beginning the program.
5. Will there be a doctor at the program?

Each program has a health professional that leads that particular START NEW Basic Training Team. This could be a doctor or nurse. The presentations used at each program have been designed by our START NEW Basic Training Program Physician, Dr. Neil Goodman, D.O.
